KNOW YOUR MINI TYPE

This is to help you understand which mini you own from a spare parts point of view. Officially There were only Mk1/Mk2 and Mk3 on sales brochures but the Mk4 was introduced by Keith Dodd in 1976 to help people understand the main parts changes. From here we eventually got to MK7

Induction system - Improvements, initial tasters…

Modern technology has seen dramatic improvements in power outputs over very recent years. Just look at Formula One, where 3000cc engines are now putting out the sort of power not even dreamed of not so long ago at rpm levels that make motorcycle engines flinch!

At the end of every racing season the new/recurrent champions are confirmed, and the rest of the field turning their attention towards next year/season and ways of beating the crowned champ. Invariably this involves that age-old quest for the illusive extra horsepower this year's champion seemed to have over everybody else. So I thought it may be useful to have a look at some stuff that is largely over-looked by many and to further agitate those little grey cells.

14A7630–CHANNEL+14A7631

Vertical rear moulding for the Estate and Traveller rear side windows.

14.4375” or 367mm With the double row channel grooves facing upwards. This is a side view elevation. This channel will require the ends to be cut exactly as above to the original angle of 20 degrees and the correct length as shown which ensures the best fitment. As the material is not the easiest to cut cleanly it is recommended that a new hacksaw blade or good quality snips are used and the channel grooves are packed with wood splints. Alternatively, you can use your old original sample as a template. 14A7631 – FRONT VERTICAL MOULDING HAS SQUARE ENDS, 340MM LONG Alternatively, use your old original sample as a template

24A88 MINI FRONT DOOR WINDOW CHANNEL

This window channel is now supplied without water drain holes

The drain holes can be identified as the larger 6.5mm holes in the chromium plated glazing strip.

The smaller holes in the glazing strip are used for fastenings to affix the channel and glazing strip to the door frame.

TO MAKE DRAIN HOLES IN CHANNEL;
Use chromium plated glazing strip as a template.

Mark drain holes on closed face of Channel.

Using a 3mm drill bit, carefully drill pilot holes through closed face of channel as marked.

11.08.07 - Snetterton Report by Keith Calver

Having made some improvements and progress at Croft the decision now was – what to do next? The increase in toe-out on the rear, despite being a small amount, seemed to help get the car turned better. Should I add more? In my 'softly softly' approach to getting the car sorted so I don't loose my way I contemplated this for a while and decided that on the whole it would be better to go to Snetterton with the car as it finished at Croft....

Mini Production dates

We have tried to get together as complete list as possible to show all the models made from 1985 onwards, hopefully this will help identify those cars that have been modified over the years. If you have any information that you know is correct or anything that you think is not right please let us know.

03.04.10, Cadwell Park Race Report by Keith Calver

Getting the car ready for the first race was not quite the last minute flurry of panicked activity it usually is. Largely because the re-fit and re-furb were kept to a minimum following complete strip re-build plans shot to pieces by tradesmen being somewhat hard to pin down to get very necessary domestic work done.

Most importantly the doors and windows in the garage. The special concertina type front doors have been falling slowly decaying over the past few years....

East Anglian Classic Rally - David Smalley and Peter Horsburgh

With a couple of weeks to go, as a new member of Kings Lynn and District MC, I decided to to enter as a club crew for our local HRCR Clubmans Championship round in Norfolk.

Out of the total of 34 crews there were 3 Mini Cooper S’s ,2 Austin 1275GT’s and 1 very smart Wolseley Hornet . The following is his report and I hope it will encourage more MCR members to bring out their cars on Historic rallies.

2013 New Sponsors and a New Challenge

I have had a very busy winter building not one but 4 Mighty Mini's up well to be exact 2 Mighty Mini's and 2 Super Mighty Mini's, the difference being that the Supers have about 100 Bhp where the Mighty's only have 70 Bhp and the Supers have a lot more race mods allowed from rear anti roll bars to plastic windows and lots more little things, they all add up to about 12 seconds a lap at say Donington Park.

You can imagine I have not had many nights off or weekends since the last race in October 2012, I sold my very successful Mighty Mini number 9 car to young Zack Booth who I am sure you will get to here a lot about in the coming seasons as I feel he is a talented young driver with the world of Motorsport at his feet.
